الرجل الذي قاد الهجوم فجر أمس على سفن المساعدات وهي مبحرة في المياه الدولية نحو غزة هو قائد ورئيس مخابرات البحرية الإسرائيلية، الأدميرال اليعازار تشي ماروم، الصيني الأصل شكلا وعقلية والمعروف بصاحب فضيحة "ملهى غو غو" الشهير في أوائل العام الماضي بتل أبيب.
يكتبون عن ماروم، وهو متزوج من أورا ماروم وأب منها لثلاثة أبناء وأبصر النور في بلدة بالشمال الاسرائيلي قبل 55 سنة، بأنه من النوع الصامت ولا تعرف يسراه ما تفعل يمناه. مع ذلك استطاعوا ضبطه بالجرم المشهود في مارس (آذار) 2009 وهو يدخل ويخرج من بعدها من الملهى الليلي في تل أبيب مترنحا بالسكر الشديد، وأصبحت قصته على كل لسان.
في اليوم التالي أنكر ماروم بشدة أنه كان في "غو غو" لتمضية سهرة ليليلة حمراء، وقال: "دخلته فقط لألقي السلام على صديق كان هناك ثم خرجت بعد دقائق" لكن أحد الحضور في ملهى التعرية وتوابعها التقط لماروم لقطات بكاميرا هاتفه النقال من دون أن يدري، ثم قام ببثها على فيديو في اليوم التالي بموقع "يوتيوب" للفيديوات، فأقر ماروم واعترف واعتذر عما هو ممنوع على العسكريين، و كاد أن يخسر بسببه منصب قائد البحرية الذي تم تعيينه فيه بأغسطس (آب) 2007 خلفا للقائد السابق الذي استقال وقتها بسبب الحرب الإسرائيلية مع حزب الله في لبنان منذ 4 سنوات.
وماروم، الموصوف أيضا بأنه متهور ومحتسي خمور ممتاز وخبير بالنبيذ وما شابه، ليس عسكريا تماما، بل جاء من خلفية مدنية إلى الجيش، فهو حاصل على ماجستير بالعلوم الاجتماعية من جامعة حيفا، وعلى ثانية بادارة الأعمال من جامعة هارفارد الشهيرة في الولايات المتحدة، ومن بعدها دخل السلك العسكري منخرطا ضمن دورة في البحرية للمحترفين في 1975 حيث برز بسرعة "ربما لأنه مختلف شكلا عن سواه وأراد أن يثبت مقدرته بالتفوق على الآخرين، فكان له ما أراد" وفق ما كتب عنه صحيفة "يديعوت أحرونوت" الإسرائيلية.
كتبوا عنه أيضا أنه من النوع اللامبالي بالعواقب، لكنهم وصفوه بأنه ثعلب محترف بالانقضاض، وبرز ذلك واضحا حين قاد عملية السيطرة على سفينة الأسلحة "كارين إيه" في مطلع 2002 بعملية خاطفة أطلق هو نفسه عليها اسم "عملية سفينة نوح" حيث قاد بحارة اسرائيليين في البحر الأحمر وحملهم ليلا إلى حين وصوله عند نقطة تبعد 500 كلم عن ميناء إيلات الإسرائيلي، وهناك انقض على "كارين ايه" مسيطرا بدقائق على السفينة التي كثرت الروايات حولها في ذلك الوقت وعمن كان يقف وراءها وما كان عليها من أسلحة وإلى أين كانت وجهتها النهائية.
ولماروم الموصوف أيضا بأنه صاحب عقلية مقامرة ومغامرة، شجرة عائلة معقدة الأصول، فأبوه كان صينيا ولد في ألمانيا وعاش كلاجيء فيها زمن الحرب العالمية الثانية، وجدته من أمه كانت يهودية روسية المولد وهاجرت إلى الصين. أما جده لأمه فكان صينيا اعتنق اليهودية حين تعرف بجدته في الصين، فتزوجا وهاجر من بعدها ابن لهما إلى إسرائيل، فتزوج فيها من إسرائيلية أصولها آسيوية، لكن هويتها غير معروفة تماما، ومن رحمها خرج ماروم مبصرا النور في شمال إسرائيل.
ولماروم شخصية تبدو لأول وهلة بسيطة وفكاهية، بحسب ما يكتبون عنه، فمع أنه ممنوع مثلا على ذوي المناصب العليا في الجيش الإسرائيلي، وربما في أي جيش، الاشتراك في مواقع للتعارف الاجتماعي على الأنترنت، كالفيس بوك والتويتر، فإنه عاند وفتح صفحة له على "فيس بوك" مع صورة له لا تليق بقائد قوة البحرية في أي دولة، ففيها يبدو وقد أطلق ضحكة امتدت من شفتيه وتكاد تصل إلى أطراف أذنيه، تماما كصور الأشخاص الفكاهيين والاجتماعيين البسيطاء.
إلا أن ماروم ليس بسيطا بالمرة كما يبدو، فهو الذي أعطى الأوامر فجر أمس وقتل أكثر من 10 مسالمين كانوا على متن سفن المساعدات إلى الفلسطينيين وجاء بعاصفة على إسرائيل لم تكن سفينتها تتمناها، لذلك بدأوا يطالبون بإقالته وتحويله إلى كبش فداء بحسب ما رددته مواقع إخبارية إسرائيلية.

The UN, EU, and nearly every other government and multilateral organization have called on Israel to lift the blockade and, now, launch a full investigation of the flotilla raid. But without massive pressure from their citizens, world leaders might limit their response to mere words -- as they have so many times before.

Most people everywhere still share the same dream: for two free and viable states, Israel and Palestine, to live side by side. But the blockade, and the violence used to defend it, poisons that dream. As a columnist wrote to his fellow Israelis today in the newspaper Ha'aretz, "We are no longer defending Israel. We are now defending the siege. The siege itself is becoming Israel's Vietnam."
Thousands of pro-peace activists in Israel today protested the raid and the blockade in demonstrations from Haifa, to Tel Aviv and Jerusalem -- joining demonstrations around the world. Regardless of which side threw the first punch or fired the first shot (the Israeli military claims it did not initiate the violence), Israel's leaders sent helicopters of armed commandos to raid a convoy of ships in international waters bringing medicine and supplies to Gaza, and some now lay dead.
Their lives cannot be brought back. But perhaps, together, we can make this dark moment a turning point -- if we arise with an unshakable call for justice, and an unbreakable dream of peace.
